Legalithm's checker is free. Here's what that free tier does and doesn't include, and where Auley fits.
Legalithm offers a free applicability checker, risk assessment, and documentation tools, with pricing kept free through roughly April 2028 as an early-access offer. If cost is the only factor, that's worth knowing upfront, and worth checking directly, since promotional pricing can change.
Legalithm's free tier includes an applicability checker, risk assessment, an Annex IV documentation generator, an AI inventory, and a penalty calculator. That's a genuinely useful set of tools for working out where you stand. What it doesn't appear to include, based on what's publicly listed, is anything covering Article 4's AI literacy training requirement, the part of the Act that needs staff to understand the AI tools they're using.
Auley isn't free, it's £49 to £149 a month depending on headcount, but it covers all four pieces together: AI inventory, risk classifier, policy generator, and a training tracker built specifically for the literacy requirement that Legalithm's free tier doesn't appear to address. If you've already used Legalithm's checker and want the training and ongoing tracking piece covered too, that's the gap Auley fills.
If your business is small enough that free tools cover what you need, and you're comfortable handling AI literacy training yourself, Legalithm's free tier is a genuinely reasonable option and worth trying first.
